From the Revolutionary War to Desert Storm and the current war on terror, many battles have been fought to secure and defend the freedom we enjoy and cherish in the United States of America. The men and women who have fought, and all too often died, in these wars have been remembered in many memorials across this country and around the world. Their sacrifice has been great, and more will likely be necessary. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance along with periodic conflict due to failures of diplomacy. . In other words, future battles and sacrifice are almost inevitable.

For every one involved in our historical conflicts, there are numerous individuals who also made great sacrifices and have been largely forgotten. They are the families, friends and loved ones of everyone who has ever gone to battle in defense of our great country. Unfortunately, they will be joined by others whose relatives or friends are called to arms in future battles. In every instance, they have faced or will face the loss of their loved one at least for the duration of the battle. In some cases the loss will be more severe, perhaps total.
For those Americans who have already sacrificed in battle, for those who will in future conflicts, and for all their loved ones whose sacrifice would otherwise be forgotten, we have built the All Wars Memorial in Danville CA. This timeless Memorial is a fitting tribute to the combatants and to their parents, children, siblings and friends. It has never been done before, and it was long overdue.
The VNVDV are proud to have been the initial sponsor of this project. In three years, the idea was born, a landscape architect was hired, the memorial (including statue, liberty panels and overall structure) was designed, contracts for the statue and other bronze work were awarded, and the town of Danville donated and dedicated the Memorial site in Oak Hill Park. We then created the All Wars Memorial Foundation made up of various local civic leaders, and this organization took over the remaining fund raising responsibility and completed the Memorial.
To quote former Senator Robert Dole: In all wars, the spirit of America saved the world, on the home front and on distant battlefields. We owe a debt! And, being Americans, we repay it with a pledge: to preserve the memory against the tide of times.
